Congratulations, you’ve made your first step to what I hope will be a very friendly, fun filled experience. I started the club in 2018 with the ethos that it would be a supportive and friendly club for everyone. I don’t feel the need to constantly talk of speed, distance and PB’s – some people can find it intimidating and off putting. So, instead, I have worked with our committee to create a culture where people come to enjoy their running, work at their own pace, have a good time, see the different routes available around our great town, and go away laughing and wanting more.
That’s not to say that we don’t enter races and encourage people to do their best in them. If someone is working towards a specific goal, then the club is more than happy to support them every step of the way.
Our club is expanding so we’re bringing on board some more individuals to help. Along with the members, they will form the heart and soul of the club, they also come from different walks of life and have different sets of abilities and skills. This places them in a perfect position to help everyone at the club. So, if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to ask any of the Run Leaders, or me as Head Coach during one of our training sessions.
If you have any general questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the relevant members of the committee or contact me direct on: 07903 129043 or send me a message: email@example.com.
I wish you all the best in your running and hope to see you at training soon.
Here is our club committee:
Martin Langton - Club Chairman & Head Coach
Martin, has always been a runner and enjoys running with his dog, Billy or pushing his daughter in a running buggy. Having completed Marathons, Ultra marathons and other endurance events, he likes to help, encourage and motivate others to achieve more. He loves seeing the progression people make and is inspired by club members who achieve more than they thought they could. He is always available at training sessions to give advice and help, if you can’t find him…..he’s the one with the loud voice!
Jim Dorrington – Vice Chairman & Club Secretary
After a ‘one off’ marathon for St Catherine’s Hospice in 2015, Jim became hooked and has gone on to race many more! Since joining the club he has developed a love of trail running and has even added a few ultras to the mix for good measure. He loves adding a bit of cheek and banter to club runs, meaning, he’s often running a bit faster just to avoid a well deserved slap!
Ange Stark - Treasurer
Ange has always been into some form of exercise but took up running many years ago to give up smoking, She is pleased to say it has worked. :-) Ange enjoys the freedom and sense of achievement she gets from running, She will moan, a lot, and struggle to get up those hills, but at the end of a run you will always hear her say, "really enjoyed that!"
Matt Inge - Membership Secretary
Matt started running in 2018 to get fit after a health scare. He was soon looking for others to run with, which is when Matt saw Martin setting up this group. Since joining he has discovered a love for trail running and enjoys seeing how much other runners improve. Matt tries to run 3 or 4 times a week.
Cat McHugh - Welfare Officer
Turning up to East Grinstead Runners first session was the best decision. Cat has moaned, Cat has fallen aka Bambi but is still going. As much as she disliked hills and grass they have now grown a friendship. When your head is telling you “I can’t do it” tell yourself “I can do it”.
